'Polifonia' Seminars for Senior Management Staff in Conservatoires

October 2009 - March 2010

As announced in the AEC Congress in Arhus last November, a series of seminars for senior management staff in conservatoires will be organised during the academic year 2009 – 2010 by the ERASMUS Network for Music ‘Polifonia’.

These seminars aim to focus on professional development in the European framework in higher music education and are intended for young professionals as well as interested experienced management staff. They are meant to give conservatoire management staff the opportunity to share experiences rather than receive managerial training from management specialists.

The programme consists of two successive seminars over a period of one year for a selected group of app. 15 participants. Each seminar lasted two days and participants were offered plenary sessions with eminent keynote speakers from the cultural and higher music education sectors, as well as workshops on specific topics. These topics were identified through the analysis of the questionnaire that the ‘Polifonia’ Continuing Professional Development working group circulated to AEC members during and after the Arhus Congress.

The first seminar, which took place on 9-11 October 2009 in Antwerp, focused on the following topics:
(1) The long-term strategic management of a Higher Music Education institution
(2) Supporting the educational process in a Higher Music Education institution.

The second seminar, which took place on 13-14 March 2010 in Vienna, focused on institutional culture and institutional profile and dealt with questions such as "How to translate insitutional culturei nto institutional profile?" and "How to find the right persons for the profile of the institution?"

The first seminar was organized at the Cultural Conference Center Elzenveld in Antwerp on 9-11 October 2009. The report of the first seminar will be available soon on this website. The second seminar was organized in Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität in Vienna on 12-14 March 2010. In the downloadable documents section, you can find the programmes of the seminars, as well as presentations by speakers.
